How to Apply for UPSC Exam 2023

To apply for UPSC Exam 2023, follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Go to the official website of UPSC: https://www.upsconline.nic.in
  2. Scroll down the page.
  3. Click on the link mentioned on the website that reads ‘Online Application for Various Examinations of UPSC’
  4. A new page will open on your screen.
  5. Click on the Civil Services Part-I registration link mentioned there on the website.
  6. Go through the application form instructions and read them carefully.
  7. Click on Yes
  8. Enter the details and click on ‘continue’. (In Part I registration, you have to fill out the basic details, like name, parent’s name, DOB, marital status, permanent address, educational qualification, and address).
  9. Your application page will be redirected to the payment gateway to pay the application fees.
  10. After paying the application fees, click on continue/proceed.
  11. Upload your photograph, signature, and photo identity card.
  12. After successfully uploading the documents, click on continue/proceed.
  13. Select the center of examination and then submit your application form.
  14. Once your application form has been successfully submitted, download it, and take a printout of your UPSC Exam application form for future reference.

Note:

  1. In the first part of registration, you have to provide the basic details and go through all the necessary instructions for image specifications, payment of the application fee, corrections in the application form (if required), etc.
  2. Candidates can alternatively click on Part-II registration after completing Part-I registration and can apply using their Registration ID and date of birth. Part II comprises three steps, namely – payment of examination fees (if applicable), uploading of a photograph and signature, and choosing an examination center.

The UPSC CSE Prelims Admit Card 2023 will be released around 15 days before the Prelims Exam Date, which you can download from the official website of UPSC.

Keep the following points in mind while filling up the application form.

  1. Though the online application form is available in both English and Hindi, it can only be filled out in the English Language.
  2. Once the online application form is submitted, changes are not allowed.
  3. If you want to make some changes to an application form, you may submit a fresh application with prerequisite revision by the last date for receipt of the application, which is 23rd February 2023. Remember, all your earlier submitted applications will be canceled and your latest one will be considered for processing.

  1. The students who will pass the 2023 UPSC Civil Services Main Examination are eligible to apply for the UPSC Interview.

How One Can Pay the Application Fee for the UPSC Exam?

UPSC charges a nominal fee to candidates for Prelims and Mains. Both online payment and offline payment options are available for UPSC Exam applicants.

  1. Online mode: Applicants may pay their application fee online using a debit card/ credit card like a Visa, Mastercard, RuPay credit card, etc., or their SBI internet banking account. 
  2. Offline mode: Applicants may pay their application fees in currency at any SBI branch in order to submit their payment offline. During part II registration, candidates who want to pay by cash should print the pay-in slip that the system generates and pay the cost at the SBI Branch counter only the next working day. Candidates should be aware that the “Pay by Cash” mode will be disabled one day prior to the submission deadline.

Note: Candidates who generated their pay-in slip prior to the process’s deactivation, however, may still pay the fee at any SBI branch. On the closing day, however, it is necessary to pay within banking hours.

Exam Fee For UPSC Prelims: Rs. 100 for the Male applicants of General or OBC.

Exam Fee For UPSC Mains: Rs. 200 is set for the Male applicants belonging to General or OBC.

Note: Females, SC/STs, and anyone with a Benchmark Disability are excused from paying fees.

Candidate Photo and Signature Parameters in UPSC Applications

For uploading the scanned images of the photograph and signature, note down their required sizes, which are given below:

  1. Photo: Size 3 KB – 40 KB
  2. Signature: Size 1 KB – 40 KB

The e-admit cards are now issued by Union Public Service Commission in place of hall tickets (paper). One month before the exam, candidates who have already applied can download their e-admit cards. A printout of this document must thereafter be brought to the exam room by the candidates.
