How Many Services Are the Career Options For UPSC Aspirants Divided Into?

UPSC conducts Civil Service Exam every year and recruits around 700-800 officers. Based on the ranks secured by the successful candidates and the vacancies advertised in the notification, different services are allotted to them.

Types of Civil Services Of India

All India Services

Indian Administrative Service (IAS)

Members of this service work for both the central government of India and the states allotted to them (cadres).

IAS personnel are also stationed in a variety of government organizations, including auxiliary bodies, staff & line agencies, statutory bodies, autonomous bodies, regulatory bodies, and public sector organizations.

Indian Police Service (IPS)

One of the three All India Services established under Article 312 of the Indian Constitution is the Indian Police Service (IPS).

Indian Forest Service (IFoS)

Group ‘A’ Civil Services of India

Indian Foreign Service (IFS)

Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS)

ICAS is a part of Department of Expenditure which comes under the Union Ministry of Finance.

The service was established in 1976 with the goal of separating the Union Government’s Auditing and Accounting activities through deputation and transfer from the Indian Audit and Accounts Department.

Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS)

It works for the Indian government’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS)

Indian Postal Service (IPoS)

It was started in the year 1972 for the management of finances of Department of Telecommunications and Department of Posts. A special service was required as these two departments had to look after all the communications happening across the nation.

DANICS stands for Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu Civil Services.

Now it is termed DANIAS which stands for Delhi, Andaman, Nicobar Islands, Lakshwadeep, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman Diu Administrative Service.
